We are world leaders in the export of handmade cigars. Our country produces half of the handcrafted puros bought in the U.S.A.
Today, handmade cigars, crafted by Dominican artisans, consist of a select blend of premium tobacco, perfectly ages and known as puros among connoisseurs, who consider these an icon of elegance.
In 2012, tobacco accounted for 43% of the country’s agricultural exports and created over 100,000 direct jobs. US$518 million were generated from the export of tobacco products, mainly hand-rolled cigars.
