Pineapple production grew from 98 million units in 2011 to 156 million units in 2012.
At present, the Dominican Republic is ranked number 19 among the world’s foremost producers of this important export product, showing a 100% growth rate in production over the last three years. Almost 3,000 hectares of pineapple are cultivated with a 2012 yield of about 156 million fruit.
Dominican producers are harvesting the MD2 (Golden) pineapple, which is resilient, very sweet, rich in vitamins and not as perishable as other varieties. This production has experienced a favorable growth rate and offers excellent business potential for supplying both the local demand and the export market.
