From the chocolate boutiques of Soho to Tokyo’s candy stores. Dominican cocoa is deservedly famous. US$183 million worth of cocoa was exported in 2011. Exports during this period included almost 51,000 tons of cocoa beans and 7,880 tons of manufactured cocoa.
The demand for our cocoa as the new super food throughout global consumer markets is a result of its wealth of antioxidants, over twice the amount found in red wine and almost three times that of green tea. Currently, the country has approximately 10,000 producers of organic cacao.
