The surge of banana production and its worldwide market positioning as a quality export product have encouraged its cultivation in the Dominican Republic.
Banana production experienced dynamic growth in the decades of the 1940s and 50s, as a result of the investment of multinationals in the country. After 1990, the Dominican Republic became an important exporter, currently classified as the 8th banana producer in all of Latin America.
Our banana production increased to almost 36 million in 2012 clusters. In fact, organic banana production now represents 80% of all organic exports from our country.
